The PRIDA team visited Port Vila, Vanuatu, from 12–16 May 2025 to continue strengthening
Partnerships and capacity in partnership with the Ministry of Health (MOH) and Vila Central
Hospital (VCH).
Hospital (VCH).
Building on prior visits and ongoing virtual engagement, the trip focused on key targets, such as improving microbiology specimen collection, enhancing blood culture testing and reporting, supporting Infection Prevention (IPC) responses to multi-resistant organisms, and promoting Antimicrobial Stewardship practices. Activities included side-by-side mentoring in the microbiology laboratory, training clinicians, pharmacists, and IPC staff, participating in ward rounds, and reviewing laboratory processes, and equipment needs.
Numerous strategies have been recommended to enhance current practice, several of which have already been implemented since the visit.
This dedication and enthusiasm from the Vanuatu team is a key factor in the productivity of the working relationship between PRIDA and the health sector in Vanuatu.
